What do you think about the government spying on everything you do? This thread is not only important for U.S people but also for Germans, French, British, Australians, etc as they were named in Snowden revealing. On one hand, if you aren't doing something bad then you don't have anything to fear about, do you? On the other hand, imagine what would happen if this type of system falls in the wrong hand, such as a dictator.... or has it already fallen in such hands?

Even if I am not doing something bad, I am losing my freedom. I am being controlled by someone who is killing mine intimacy which I was born with. Technology and modern era is good, but it doesn't know for limits and boundaries. Sometimes I regret I was not born at least century earlier. If you ask me, I would like more to be uncontrollable peasant in a field from 20th century , than a controlled part of 'democracy' in 2015.

What today is called by many people is "modern slavery". They tried to controll people before by making them slaves and it failed, now they try to make people slaves without people knowing theyre slaves. ... I read this couple years ago. WHat i think? I think it sholdnt be done. Everyone has the right of his/her privacy and freedom. Usually this is made in advanced western countries. In Albania the only thing we had as surveillance was phone recording. Sometimes our goverment would record phone conversations, even my friend whos father was a attorney had his phone recorded and checked by goverment, usually we would make fun of goverment, like i would call him and start insulting the guy who was recording lol. As for camera spy or stuff like that, i dont think it exists in eastern europe...yet

I'm against the notion that the surveillance state will efficiently protect us from terrorism. According to this and many other sources you will find after a quick google search, there was not a single terror plot thwarted with the help of mass surveillence so far. That is the spying on citizens. Probably the second best reason against the notion just after the simple truth that giving up civil liberty is and never was a good idea. We declared a war on terror and now startle in fear whenever that war comes to our cities as if it's something otherwordly that wasn't supposed to happen. These terrorists don't come to our lands just because they hate our freedom, they come because we are in a war and their terror is a powerful strategic weapon. So I suggest people get used to the bombings and shootings for as long this war lasts, because with that comes the realisation that it is always in our power to end this war as unilaterally as we declared it.

In Soviet Russia the government doesnt spy on the people. The people spy on the government.

Clovis, goverments don't spy on us. Everything we do is traceable, governments just buy private companies the information, for example, telephonic companies. Anyway, who the heck thinks that's fine?

I always wondered how government which is composed of 15-20 ministers can spy on citizens. In Russia, we have state agency for surveilance which is independent from the Cabinet of Ministers(the Government) but work closely with Federal Court which gives order to surveilance agency and expect informations from them so Court can use it for their further prosecution, defense of accused, defense of suer. Didn't know power is so centralized on the West, i'm glad we have share of power through many agencies and committees in Russia.

They know what music you're listening to, so they'll be able to save that data and use it for future music development; it's all marketing. They'll also know from what device are you listening to it, where are you, what are you doing and so what are your interests and what you do during half of your life while listening to music

The United States has a ton of intelligence agencies, but all of them are so grossly defunded that their efficiency and work capacity is basically at 0%. I'm not saying I support them, because I don't (thanks to Sen. Rand Paul for filibustering the largest, NSA).

i was aware they were able to hack tor to break on a quite large and disturbing child pornography ring, but i was under the impression it was a one time thing and generally if you follow the guidelines you were more or less safe. I mean, after they cracked through the Silk road network and arrested the owner, other people took over and its still up and running isnt it? If a multi-million dollar drug trafficking online organization can retain its anonymity then im sure our porn and sex videos are quite safe in tor. p.s. also i believe its a double edge sword, as if the us. government create and admit to an efficient and consistent way to hack through tor, they will hurt themselves aswell, as they are still relying on it for military intelligence and information sharing, right?
