How do battles work with multiple allies?

Hi, I apologize if this has been posted before. I couldn't find any info on this with a cursory look.

If 3 allies were to attack an enemy city, how would the battle rolls work? Would each players strongest unit alternate fighting the defender each turn?

If only allies attack the enemy city then every ally takes turn attacking with their highest attack unit.
