Time and time again I hear people complaining about unfair battle outcomes. "Surely my superior force should've defeated that puny army?", they say. Well, in most case, sure, but there are exceptions, and they are absolutely necessary.

First of all, if you're interested in battle mechanics, I can recommend you to put the slowest battle speed in your settings - this will show the actual rolls (damage) and help you understand the mechanics. Also, here's a FAQ battles entry. Basically, every unit normally has 7 HP (hit points) and a certain range of attack and defense rolls (depending on the situation). That range is always 1 to max attack/defense (which you can see on the units page / units menu in the game).

Now, if you're extremely unlucky, your unit will roll 1 several times in a row, only dealing 1 damage each time. It would take 8 hits just to take one enemy unit down. Every time you attack, an enemy unit fires back (using their defense stats). So, every time you will also be taking damage. Again, in an extreme situation, enemy can take down one unit per shot.

Things like that happen, and the randomness and unpredictability factor that they bring is extremely important to keep the gameplay exciting and being closer to the real world, where as you know, pure numbers don't always win and unpredictable outcomes happen all the time.

Depending on how this mechanic work you can be benefited or the neutrals. If your tests result in 50% then I assume neutrals got benefit. It would'be useful if you put the speed in 'very slow' (as Ivan said) so we can see the rolls there. Töltés... Töltés...

For example sometimes an unit will get its HP reset instead of dying when it's the last one remaining (and some other conditions I don't know yet), clovis made a thread about it and you can easily confirm this by attacking a gen with a gen, given how the battles should normally work it should always be a draw but it doesn't happen, instead the defender always wins. Also there's stack bonus (confirmed by amok and easily reproduced, go make a custom and use big stacks against neutrals with infs, the neutrals will get a lot of 1 dmg rolls). I know I'm kinda late to the thread, sorry, but I had to say this. It'd be REALLY nice if admins gave more exact info on how the battles work, we would all appreciate it. Töltés... Töltés...
