This got a little out of hand very quickly. While I'm not proposing a complete end to UN, I am proposing a permanent rank limit, as stated in my first post. With a limit of 6+, new players get a chance to learn the game, and more importantly, learn to be GOOD. I'm not gonna lie, I occasionally play UN. But when I do, I do it for a little relaxation. It's just something I do to do. I use UN as a little break from other games. And that's what I feel UN should be. A break room, almost. In UN, I do some ridiculous things like make 50 submarines or something. I just use it as a little escape. Another problem with UN is the mass ally-ing. If I'm playing, lets say a world game, and some rank 4 sends me or another rank 8+ an ally request and it gets refused, he'll say some nasty things and rage quit (I hope I'm not speaking for myself). With a permanent rank limit, and maybe a future no SP implemention, new players will learn to fight for themselves. I'm not saying allying is bad, but having every player as an ally is not good. Of course, mass allying isn't my only concern with UN. Just 1 major problem.

I agree. I am not a rank 6 or above, but I agree with your proposal. Younger players (like myself) have to realize that SP comes only when you are good at the game. I lost my first 30 games before I started learning and maturing as a player. I still have a lot of work to do, but rank 3 and 4's piggybacking off of other allies and using UN games as a crutch defeat the whole purpose of the game. I think the game needs to have a limit of how many allies you can have in a game so you don't mass ally and piggyback off of others success. Maybe like a player can only have 5-6 allies in a 10 person game, or something like that so people can strategically pick alliances and win by their own merit.

One of the main arguments I see UN fans make is: "We play for fun. Who's you to tell us how we should have fun?" Well. I find rouging to be quite fun in UN games, yet everybody tells me to stop and won't let me do it. So, if I like roughing, who's you to tell me how to have fun? And the UN fans response would be: "But roughing ruins the game for everyone." I rouge for fun and it ruins the game for everybody. So I suppose you should be allowed to play UN for fun and ruin the game for everybody. Then we'll be even.

Eh, that isn't real evidence. That was just me trolling on an alt. I disabled alliances in that UN game and thought it would be hilarious to have a full UN game where you can't ally anybody.

Well, I think that we should somehow encourage lower ranks to play more 3v3s and 1v1s. This way they will realize that competitive games are more fun than UN games, and they will stop playing UN games. If this can be done, it will be the best way to solve the problem. We need to show them that competitive games are MUCH more fun than UN. The best way to lead a lower rank into the competitive field is by clans, however that won't help cause there are too many low ranks. Actually, the other reason that people start playing UN games is because there are no competitive games that they can join because of the rank limitation. I don't have a suggestion of how to tell lower ranks about competitive games though. Maybe by PMs, cause low ranks that constantly play UN don't check the forums. Or only the threats about UN and scenarios. I don't think lowering amount of sp given after a UN game will help, cause they will continue on playing, why? cause thats the only thing they play. I like the original idea of the threat, put a rank limit. Or some other limit that they have to play other games as well. New registered players wont mind this, but the current UN players will and they will quit aw. Somehow make them watch 3v3's and befriend higher ranks so that they get to have interest in the area and want to learn how to play more competitive.

You know I have always disliked UN games, but actually if you look at it, it adds diversity to AtWar and gives more people a chance to play the game, so what if they are not 'skilled' and yes it does suck that some off us have ranked up the hard way through Europe games. I've come to the conclusion that SP doesn't really matter, if they enjoy it then let them be.

I mean, new player plays Europe map or 3v3 1v1 gets hammered, hardly enticing to keep playing, if they want to learn they will do as quite a few new guys are, watch play and try to understand. Also Bert, I understand your press for more people to play 3v3 and 1v1 but I don't feel you are in a great position to comment on UN games having never seriously tried them <3

That was actually aimed at BertanK's comment, I appreciate all the regular 3v3/1v1/normal game lovers PoV I just think it is really irrelevant now, if the map was just the world like it used to be people would hate on say 50k players or those silly Eurasian players, seriously just let them be, SP/rank etc really isn't as important as we all make out, I mean some established players who are high ranked suck even when all they play is the normal games. If you value skill, then seek opponents who do also, and rejoice in killing the noobs who are high rank from playing other game types.

The problem wouldn't be there at all if all of UNs bad attitude didn't leak into all other games. If it was completely isolated no one would give a shit.

SP doesn't matter when you're rank 10, but upgrades make a HUGE difference when you're rank 3~5. It's way harder to beat someone as a rank 3 than as a rank 10. We should have an option to "allow all upgrades", just like the one to remove all of them.

UN players are some of the most ignorant assholes i've seen around. Look at this: "Fuck the forums" Yeah, fuck the place where tournements begin and where we can share strategies and talk about the game. That was their response after somebody asked if the UN was gonna be deleted based on this discussion. On a positive note, that same UN had me as a guest as host where I disabled alliances and it was a successful ruined game.

Lol, you can't even type the percentage sign properly. UN sucks, I went rogue as UN for fun, and guess what I saw? The game is meant to be a fun RPing game, everyone was ganging up on turkey, starting with iran threatening turkey. Then everyone said that turkey was going rogue. I honestly don't know why they keep coming back...

"allow all upgrades" = 99% of players will quit. as fair as i know, the only reason we level up is for upgrades.

Reading throught this thread you dont seem to realise what happens to new players when they get moved to the main room: they get raped. I have never played a UN game, i got moved to the main room yesterday, i mostly played europe maps, but i can understand why people dont want to play the normal games: If you start on your own you will get raped by someone with a better level joining on turn 3 in your weak spot because you had no opposition to plan for. I have yet to play a game where 2 higher level players didn't gang up on me, letting the eventual winner do his thing unmolested. Its really hard to compete even 1v1 without the upgrades they have. people are nasty on the chat, and asking for advice from better is pointless. a suspicious number of times someone plays just long enough to send all his troops to you, then quits when another player, who is now certain to destroy me alone, attacks them in their totally undefended side. When they do that you may as well quit too, you have been put in a position you cant survive from. Conclusion: this is a really good game, there should be a medium room for levels 4/6 or so coz the main games are a closed shop that really was no fun to play, and thus pointless, 3 times out of 5.

I totally agree that there should be a room for medium ranked players (rank 4-7). Because ranks 4/5 are just getting overrun by rank 9+. Against rank 6/7 they are in a little disadvantage, but there they have some chances and they learn something while they play. By getting raped you learn nothing and it isn't fun either

No, no no. A medium level room would not work. I looked up a random rank 4 account and that record showed a total of 52 games played. I'm a rank 6 and I've played over 200. Other rank 6's have probably played more than I have. Rank 4's will be raped also. The only reason the noob room works is because the SP between the ranks are relatively the same. So you might say to make the medium level rank 5-7 but that won't work either. Rank 5's will have only played 150 or so and the rank 7 will have played over 400. Rank 5s will be equally raped. And I disagree about not learning. When I play against high ranks I study their expansion and the amount of units they attack/protect with. Watching games with high ranks playing works as well.

I leveled up to rank 9 from rank 0 without the need for a beginners room, without the need for UN games and without the need of any constant safeguarding. I played against people like Fruit, TopHats, Houdini, Himmler, Mea Culpa, etc from rank 0+. That is the way I learned to play. I do not see why these UN gams or beginner rooms are needed at all for SP, I got mine without them.

Beginners room sucks, I skipped right past it, I learnt from 'getting raped' no matter what you might think. Upgrades are the killer blow though, basic ones like militia put players in a severe disadvantage. If you have the basic upgrades you are fine.

Pshhh, who needs the upgrades to WIN a game, upgrades are meant to support your gameplay. A player with full upgrades with 0 gameplay what so ever will lose to a player with 100% gameplay but with just basic upgrades I.E. Militia and transportation capacity.
