Roughly 100,000 British and German troops were involved in the unofficial cessations of hostility along the Western Front.[15] The truce started on Christmas Eve 1914, when German troops decorated the area around their trenches in the region of Ypres, Belgium. Then, continued their celebration singing carols, specifically Stille Nacht (Silent Night). British troops in the trenches on the other side then responded with carols in English.

The artillery in the region remained silent tonight. The truce also allowed the recent fallen they were retrieved from behind the lines and buried. Burial ceremonies were conducted with soldiers on both sides of the conflict losses crying together and offering mutual respect.

In a burial in no man's land, British and German soldiers met to read a passage from Psalm 23:

The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.

He makes me lie down in green pastures,
he leads me beside quiet waters,
he refreshes my soul.

He guides me along the right paths
for his name's sake.

Even though I walk
through the darkest valley,
I will fear no evil,
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
they comfort me.

Bad troll

This type of things are for reflex about ourselves. With a war, nobody wins, but everybody loses. Although I've personally never been in a war I feel sorry for those who lost a familiar on them.
